New Delhi: JNU Vice-Chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar on Saturday claimed that a group of 15-20 students surrounded him "in a violent manner" on the campus and abused and tried to attack him but the university security staff and police personnel rescued him. However, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union said the VC ran way when China PPR PIPE Manufacturers the students confronted him with questions on hike in hostel fees and accused him of spreading falsehood.

JNU has been seeing protests for one-and-a-half months over the increase in fee and students have boycotted exams over the issue. The protests had turned violent once, forcing the administration to roll back the hike partially, but the students say they want a complete rollback. The VC said he was surrounded by students when he had gone to oversee how the exams were going. He said around 4.30 pm, he and other officials came out of the administration block and visited the School of Biotechnology, which is within 100 metres of the administration block.Thereafter, they went to the School of Arts and Aesthetics.

"When we were coming back, 15-20 students in a violent manner surrounded me with an intention to physically assault me. They were planning to attack me and were very abusive," he told PTI.He said he was rescued by security guards and policemen in civil clothes who tried to take him away in a security vehicle but the crowd did not allow it. "I got off the vehicle and moved ahead of the crowd by 20-30 metres," Kumar said. "And then I got into my car. They damaged the car and didnt allow the car to move. My drivers presence of mind helped and he reversed the car and rescued me."

After he left, Kumar said, the students entered the administration block and ransacked it in violation of the Delhi High Court order which prohibits protests within 100 metres of the building. He said the security personnel will be able to recognise the students as photos and videos were available. When asked about the possibility of disciplinary action against the students, he said proceedings would be started against them and he will also be filing a police complaint. Earlier this week, the court had asked police to ensure security when the vice-chancellor and other officials entered the administration block, which the students had been occupying for over a month.Countering Kumars charge, JNUSU said the vice chancellor, "who does not hold any dialogue with the students", this evening visited the School of Arts and Aesthetics and students questioned him about the fee hike. "Instead of answering questions, he ran away from the spot. It is shameful that not only while leaving, his car tried to run over a student, whilst injuring other students near his car, but after going back he is telling complete lies and falsehood," the students body said in a statement. They accused the VC of calling police in large numbers and transforming the administration block into a police camp. The JNUSU urged the VC to have a dialogue with them.

But the VC said he held a meeting with hostel presidents and student leaders, and claimed that students were more or less convinced with the hostel charges and theys no longer any issue."The students (who attacked me) have some other motives. There is a small group of students who are trying to damage the future of innocent students who want to give exams. They have crossed all levels of civility," he said. The JNU Teachers Federation, a group of teachers that has broken away from JNUTA, called the alleged attack on VC and other officials "condemnable and horrifying"."Needless to add, every section of JNU community has every right to protest but within the rules and norms of democratic principles," they said in a statement. JNUTF demanded an immediate enquiry and severe action against the perpetrators.

The Korean automaker will bring the new Elantra in the Indian market in September. Based on the second iteration of Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture design language, the sixth-generation sedan has been on sale since late 2015 in the Korean market. It was launched in North America earlier this year. The car looks different as opposed to the fifth-generation Elantra which was based on the first iteration of the Fluidic Sculpture design language. Here are the things to look for in the 2016 Hyundai Elantra.Design Elements of the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language have made the Elantra a head turner. Most of the real estate at the front has been occupied by Hyundai’s signature hexagonal grille, which is flanked by sleeker, HID projector headlamps with dynamic bending lights.

The bumper houses vertically placed daytime running LEDs (DRLs). Interestingly, it also has wheel air curtains alongside the DRLs, which helps manage airflow from the front of the vehicle and around the wheels to minimise turbulence and wind resistance. The side profile features a coupe-esque roofline and a sweeping side window line, as is the latest global trend. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels internationally. At the rear, it has a stubby boot to complement the coupe-ish roofline, along with LED tail lamps with graphics. High quality Pure sine wave 800W with charger Interiors, features, and safety The interiors of the new Elantra are not as flamboyant as its exteriors, but are functional, driver-centric (centre stack has a seven-degree tilt towards the driver), and offer more features than before. The instrument panel comes with a 4.2-inch LCD screen, which provides a host of information.

It comes with Hyundai’s latest 7.0-inch and 8.0-inch infotainment systems, which support both Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. Hyundai also offers Blue-Link app support (both for smartphone and smartwatch) with the new Elantra. The Blue Link offers services such as remote start with climate control operation, destination search (powered by Google), remote door lock/unlock, car locator, and stolen vehicle recovery. The new Elantra offers an integrated memory system for the power driver seat and side mirrors. It also features hands-free smart trunk (just like the upcoming Tucson), which allows users to open the trunk by simply approaching the rear of the vehicle with the key fob in a purse or pocket. An audible beep will sound three times, and the trunk will open automatically. In terms of safety, the new Elantra comes with a seven-airbag system, including a driver’s knee airbag, along with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Traction Control, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and a tyre-pressure monitoring system. The carmaker is likely to offer these features when the vehicle comes to India in September. Chassis The new platform makes the 2016 sedan considerably wider than the previous Elantra and slightly longer as well, while the height is identical. Hyundai promises 29.5 per cent stiffer torsional rigidity, 25.3 per cent greater bending strength and lower body weight compared to the last-gen Elantra, which will result in improved ride and handling, quietness, durability and driving performance.

Engines The Elantra is probably getting a brand-new petrol engine in India – a 2.0-litre Nu MPI Atkinson cycle, four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. The engine churns out 156PS 6,200rpm and 195Nm of peak torque at 4,500rpm. Internationally, the 2.0-litre Nu four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine is paired with either a standard six-speed manual transmission or a new six-speed automatic. It is expected that the latter will make its way to India. The outgoing Elantra offers a 1.8-litre VTVT. The diesel will be carried forward from the outgoing car. However, the 1.6-litre is reportedly uprated in the new Elantra and it now produces 138PS instead of the 128PS in the previous sedan. Expect the same transmission options with the diesel as well. Prices The prices of the new Elantra are expected to start in the vicinity of Rs 15 lakh and the car will continue to compete with the Toyota Corolla, the Skoda Octavia, the Volkswagen Jetta and the Chevrolet Cruze, along with the upcoming tenth-gen Honda Civic, which is expected to be launched next year. Pune: Tata Motor, which launched its ambitious car Nano, nearly a decade ago, is no longer dispatching it to its dealerships, but the world’s cheapest car is being offered at discounts to cut down inventory level ahead of April deadline to discontinue production. The Mumbai-headquartered auto major’s dealerships across the country confirmed that the Tata Nano hatchback has been taken off from production.Interestingly, most of these dealerships are enticing buyers with a minimum discount ppr ball valve with brass ball of Rs 15,000-Rs 20,000 on the 2018 inventory.Auto analysts said with anti-lock breaking system or ABS to be mandatory on all cars sold from April 1, 2019, production of Tata’s iconic small car, which lacks this key safety feature, will finally end. With no demand for the model, it makes no financial sense for Tata Motors to invest in upgrading the Nano and giving it ABS at the end of its life cycle.

Therefore, the mandatory ABS will be the final blow for the Nano, and the car will be discontinued in April 2019, analysts pointed out. They pointed out that Tata Nano “will die on its own death because it will not meet safety regulations”.Analysts also pointed out that from July 1, 2019 all cars sold in India will have to be equipped with at least a driver airbag, a speed warning system, a seatbelt reminder for driver and co-driver, and rear parking sensors as standard. This will be followed by more stringent crash test norms by October 2019.And finally, from April 1, 2020 onward, all cars sold in Asia’s third biggest car mart will have to meet the stringent BS VI fuel emission norms.“As mentioned before, the Nano in its current form will not meet the new safety and emission norms and may need infusion of fresh investments. No decision has been made yet in this regard.

We continue to produce Nano catering to customer demands,” the Tata Motors spokesperson told Financial Chronicle.Sales of the Nano model hit a new low in June 2018, when the company sold just three units, according to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, a top lobby body. Also, during the entire month of June 2018, only one Nano was produced whereas the Sanand factory has a capacity to produce 2.4 lakh units a month. Between July and December 2018, the company found only 310 buyers whereas the dream was to sell it in thousands every month. The company in January did not produce nor sell even a single unit of the small car, which was once dubbed as the ‘people’s car’.“Tata Nano is emotionally attached to all the Indian engineers and auto enthusiasts of Indian auto industry.

It is a sad thing to hear that the brand is not making any fresh investment to revive Nano car and also Nano to be discontinued is a sad chapter for the entire Indian automobile industry,” Gaurav Vangaal, country lead, LVP forecasting with IHS Markit told Financial Chronicle. The iconic Nano was launched in 2008 but the trend of declining sales of the Nano was seen in 2018 when the company sold 65 units in mid-2018 which then dropped to a mere three units.“Decisions on product life cycle is a holistic view taken after considering the market developments, regulations and emerging competitive landscape,” the Tata Motors spokesperson said.Last year, Cyrus Mistry, the former chairman at Tata Group, had stated that Tata Motors had already lost Rs 1,000 crores in keeping the Nano alive. He had also decided to discontinue Nano, but the Tata Group board members did not allow him to.

Now you don’t have to shell out Rs Excellent Pure sine wave 4000W with charger 15 lakh to purchase your favourite sedan or Rs 20-25 lakh for an SUV for your family, this festive season. With buyers reluctant to loosen their purse strings in the slowing down economy, car companies such as home-grown Mahindra Mahindra, Japanese giant Honda Cars and Korean carmaker Hyundai, have announced innovative schemes to sell their cars.Mahindra Mahindra, India’s biggest utility vehicle maker, has rolled out a subscription-based service for retail buyers of its cars. It has partnered with self-driving rental company Revv, which owns its fleet of vehicles. The company says the unique and flexible ownership experience for customers of Mahindra’s personal range of vehicles is an alternative to using a brand new car, making them forfeit the need to go for the purchase.

The company says this initiative has made the ownership experience of its vehicles more flexible, affordable and convenient. Customers can avail Mahindra vehicles with a subscription price starting from Rs 19,720 per month, inclusive of insurance and routine maintenance charges. The scheme charges a refundable security deposit of Rs 25,000.Buyers across Delhi (NCR), Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh, and Ahmedabad can presently avail the scheme, while other cities should be able to do so soon. This way, for a period of one year to four years (in case of a new car), people can pick from the variety of vehicles on which the scheme is valid — KUV100, XUV500, XUV300, Scorpio, TUV300, Marazzo and Alturas G4.“The exciting part in this scheme is that it is flexible. One can come out of it after four months or one or two years and there is no penalty or liability to end it any time,” a spokesperson at Mahindra said, adding that it is not meant for longer-term usage.

After all, if one pays Rs 20,000 per month, they’ll end up paying Rs 9.6 lakh in four years but own nothing. The new subscription scheme comes with offers such as zero down payments, no road tax, zero risks on the resale value of the vehicle, and a fixed amount that includes routine maintenance costs. Most importantly, one has the option to change the vehicle model after a certain minimum subscription period.Similarly, Honda Cars has also launched its new car leasing services in association with Orix, one of India’s largest car leasing and rental companies. As a part of it, customers can avail leasing options for the company’s vehicles such as CR-V, Civic and City, for both corporate and individual customers.“Car leasing offers convenience, access to latest vehicles and enables customers to enjoy the perks of using a car without having to purchase it,” Rajesh Goel, Senior Vice President and Director, Sales and Marketing at Honda Cars India, explained.

For example, the company is offering the brand new Honda City, priced between Rs 12.08 lakh and Rs 13.08 lakh for a lease period of three, four and five years. If you take the option of lease without maintenance, the down payment is Rs 1.89 lakh and the monthly rental is Rs 25,103. At the end of the lease period, you can buy the car at `4.72 lakh. On the other hand, if you opt for lease with maintenance, there is no down payment but the monthly rental goes up to `30,000. This has no buyback option.“Car leasing is gaining popularity in India and we are delighted to associate with Orix to offer tailor-made solutions for anyone who wants to enjoy benefits of the modern ownership experience,” Goel said.

Hyundai has also partnered with Revv to provide their cars to customers on a subscription basis in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Revv will offer Hyundai cars either on a monthly or a yearly basis. The fee will differ for each option and car model as well. Customers will only be required to pay a flat monthly fee. Maintenance and insurance charges will be taken care of by Revv. Customers will also have the option of swapping between different models, based on their requirement. For instance, the total expenses for renting a Hyundai Santro in Pune for one month is `25,789. Out of this, `5,000 is a refundable security deposit. There is a `300 doorstep delivery and pickup fee also, which is included in the price.

In a new scheme to tackle the issue of decongestion of roads, the government is mulling the option of allowing registration of vehicles, only after production of parking space availability certificate to the authorities. Union minister Venkaiah Naidu, in an event this week, said that the government was in touch with the Surface Transport Ministry to make it mandatory for car buyers to provide proof of parking before buying a car. However, permanent parking slots in burgeoning cities as well as metropolitan ones are hard to come by, despite car owners having enough money to purchase and maintain a vehicle. We speak to celebrities, prominent town planners and architects, as well as members of law and order and ask them if this move is a difficult one to implement, and what could be a realistic and ideal way of managing the growing traffic on the streets.

‘Some kind of car restraint is necessary in Mumbai’V.K. PHATAK, Urban planner and former chief town planner with the MMRDAI think some kind of car restraint is necessary in a city like Mumbai. But this whole certificate business, I’m not sure if it can be effectively implemented. ‘The scheme is only going to affect the middle class’Sam Paul, Advocate, Madras High CourtOne of the biggest problems on Indian roads is car traffic. By asking people to show an allotted parking space proof through this scheme, it is only going to affect the middle class and lower middle class, who mostly park their cars on the roads even in metros. But for an upper middle class, or for those households that own more than one car and have enough parking spaces, the scheme won’t have any effects. If the desired effect is to have lesser traffic on our streets, it is better to increase the tax on a second car that a particular household purchases, than ask them to show a parking space certificate.

Where is the public transport?’Narasimham Vadlamani, Landscape architectIt is a horrible idea. The government should stop troubling citizens for everything and take up some responsibility on their own. Where is the public transport? In Hyderabad, proper transportation planning has never been done. Many public buses are bought and let loose on the roads; many don’t use them because they’re in such bad condition. Nobody knows when the metro will finally start functioning. The government has been promising every year, but in vain. There’s no capable transport minister and the government doesn’t take help from transport planners or consultants. Professionals and not ministers who are slacking should run the state. Banks with car loans are pampering every individual. In a country like Singapore, this wouldn’t happen. Not everyone is allowed to buy a car easily, and the public transport is top notch.

There is no space in the city and citizens cannot be blamed for that. The government is the one to be blamed because they have not planned anything well.‘The move will benefit metro cities’P.B. Sajan, ArchitectAs far as Kerala goes, there is no difficulty in parking cars at night in the confines of your home or in by lanes. What needs to be addressed is the issue of car parking during the daytime on roads. To seek a solution to parking woes in big cities — especially in existing high-rise multi–storied buildings — what needs to be ensured is that the space earmarked as parking be utilised as parking space itself and not for any other commercial or recreational use. The government needs to ensure that the designated parking spaces as per permit remains as parking space only. It is not the government’s duty to provide parking space for shop customers, but the responsibility of the shop owners themselves.

I think the option of allowing registration of vehicles after production of parking space availability certificate will benefit metro cities by bringing down parking of cars in the daytime on roads. Multi–level parking is a good option in many cases, which can benefit commercial and residential buildings.‘They need to provide connectivity’R.Srinivas, Town and Country PlannerTo implement this rule practically will be very difficult. We are comparing our situation with Japan and Singapore and they are highly populated countries, where the rules are very strict. The only solution that can be applied is a very effective public transport system. They need to provide connectivity and accessibility. They should propose alternatives based on car sales patterns and oil sales. One family shouldn’t be Wholesale pure sine wave inverter Manufacturers allowed to have more than one car. This would be easy to implement than the rule proposed by the government.

Seeing the first dent or scratch on your car can be heart-breaking, especially if it was caused due to someone else’s fault. But what’s more disappointing is when your car insurance claim is rejected by your car insurance company. Now, you may think you have done everything right while filing the motor insurance claim with the car insurance company, but your car insurance provider has reason to believe otherwise. Believe it or not, car insurance companies do not like to reject motor insurance claims without a reason. Buying a great car insurance policy is the first step, but to make the most of the car insurance policy you purchased, you need to ensure that you file your motor insurance claims carefully. If car insurance claims are filed correctly, you could get the entire amount from your car insurance provider.

Here are some factors that you can keep in mind to ensure your motor insurance claims are not rejected by the car insurance company.1) Check Car Insurance Policy StatusAre you sure your car insurance policy was valid at the time the accident took place? If the event took place even a few hours after your policy lapsed, the claim will not be approved by the insurance company. Always ensure your policy is renewed on time to prevent rejections of claims.2) Have A Valid Driving LicenceThe first requirement for processing a motor insurance claim is that at the time of the accident the vehicle needs to be driven by a valid and effective driving licence holder. If your driving licence was not valid at the time of the accident, or if you did not have one, your car insurance company will not honour your request for claims.3)

Follow Road Safety Rules And RegulationsYour claim will be rejected if you were driving under the influence of banned substances such as drugs, liquor etc.4) Do Not Make Repairs Without Informing The Motor Insurance ProviderAssume your car met with an accident and you got it fixed without informing your car insurance company. Later, you raised a request with your insurance provider to claim the amount spent towards repairs. However, this was rejected by your insurer. Are you wondering why? As the car insurance provider was not informed about the accident and the subsequent damage to your vehicle, they could not verify the authenticity of your claim due to which your claim was rejected.

In situations such as this, always inform your motor insurance provider first, as they will send a surveyor to inspect the extent of the damage to your vehicle after which your vehicle can be sent for repairs.5) Inform Car Insurance Provider About ModificationsWhen buying a motor insurance policy, always inform your insurance provider of any alteration/modification you may have carried out in your car, for instance, installation of CNG or LPG kit. Your claim settlement may be impacted if any major alteration carried out in your car is not endorsed in your policy document.6) Transfer Policy To Your NameWhen you buy a used car, one of the first steps you need to do is to transfer the insurance policy in your name within 14 days of the purchase.

If you forget to transfer the car insurance policy within the stipulated time to your name, your claim may be rejected as you have no insurable interest in it.7) Always Provide Honest Responses In Your Claims FormProviding fraudulent/false information in your claims form is one of the top reasons your request for reimbursement can be rejected. For instance, if someone else beside the policyholder was behind the wheel, the insurance company should be notified about this. Moreover, do not modify your responses based on the assumption that your insurance company might not want to know minor details. Withholding information Wholesale PPR PIPE Factory could be considered as good as providing wrong information. While buying a car insurance is the first step towards keeping you and your car safe, just having an insurance policy is not enough. You should also aim to follow all the road safety rules and regulations and be a responsible driver.Authored article by Vijay Sinha, MD CEO of COCO by DHFL General Insurance.

It expects autonomous cars to account for a third of sales by 2025, with fully electric cars claiming 50 percent. The market is watching Volvo’s plans for the future following speculation that the company is preparing for a listing this year.Head of product strategy Marten Levenstam said China pure sine wave inverter Manufacturers 360c robo-taxis could be competitive with short-haul flights and be sold to airlines such as such as Lufthansa, SAS and United Airlines. The 360c prototype shown on Wednesday combines the size of Volvo’s flagship XC90 luxury SUV with an updated design that features all-round blue light panels to show that it is an autonomous car.

Geely, its Chinese parent, has hired three investment banks for an initial public offering that could value Volvo at $16-$30 billion, a person familiar with the matter has told Reuters.RD head Henrik Green said that Uber was “up and running” with its programme again, albeit with humans in the driving seat, and was testing to collect data.So far, Volvo’s self-driving ambitions have been closely linked with Uber, which was operating a fleet of autonomous Volvo XC90s until a recent fatal collision with a pedestrian brought the programme to a halt.

The top end of that range values Volvo at a higher multiple than any of the other traditional car companies.Volvo, which is weighing a stock market listing, is trying to make headway in self-driving cars as a mid-size luxury player with more limited resources than a BMW or Audi.Besides city driving, Volvo said the 360c would extend its customer base by tapping into demand from inter-city taxi passengers travelling as far as 300 km (186 miles), allowing it to challenge short-haul airlines and train operators.Tech companies such as Uber and Alphabet’s Waymo are pouring billions of dollars into autonomous car development, while auto manufacturers such as Daimler are testing prototypes.

Samuelsson, speaking to journalists at the launch, said the company was in talks to deliver an autonomous car specially designed for Uber’s driverless programme as it sees ride-hailing as the right way for Volvo to make good on its promise to deliver its first autonomous car by the 2020s.Few details have yet been announced, however, a year before Daimler and partner Bosch are due to deploy robo-taxis in California’s Silicon Valley.Samuelsson has said the company remains focused on meeting the challenges of electric and self-driving cars and has the funds to do so with or without a stock market flotationHe declined on Wednesday to comment on the timing or valuation in any IPO.

Volvo Cars presented a fully electric robo-taxi on Wednesday, as the Geely-owned Swedish company races to meet an ambitious target for driverless vehicle sales with its Uber supply deal on hold.“This is a product where we see interest from ride-hailing businesses,” Samuelsson said. The world’s largest automakers are developing new types of vehicle such as self-driving passenger shuttles as they look to capture new markets in which direct car sales dwindle as fewer people own them.(Source).Chief Executive Hakan Samuelsson said the Uber partnership remained intact, with Volvo set to supply up to 24,000 cars to the startup over two years
